USEtox course at SSbD26
We invite you to join a USEtox introductory training course back-to-back with SSbD26. This side event will take place on Monday, 9 November, 2026 in Hotel J, close to the SSbD26 conference venue. The course is offered and sponsored by substitute ApS, https://substitute.dk, and participation is free of charge for registered participants of the SSbD26 conference.
Objectives of the course
- Introduction to the methodological framework of USEtox 3 for assessing human toxicity and ecotoxicity impacts of chemical emissions and chemicals in products
- Overview and examples of main USEtox 3 framework components for chemical fate, near-/far-field exposure, and (eco-)toxicological effect modelling
- Examples of applying USEtox 3 in life cycle assessment, chemical footprint assessment, chemical substitution, and exposure/risk screening
- Special emphasis on integrating USEtox 3 in SSbD for assessing consumer exposure and human/eco-toxicity impacts
All SSbD26 participants are welcome to join. Due to space limitations, please register for the course by sending an email to the course organizer, Prof. Peter Fantke, USEtox Team Director.

Workshop – The SUNRISE safety and sustainability integration approach
As a side event to SSbD26, the SUNRISE project invites conference participants to a free workshop on the morning of 9 November.
SUNRISE External link, opens in new window. is developing a tiered Integrated Impact Assessment Approach (IIAA) for advanced materials across different stages of innovation, implemented through a dedicated e-infrastructure.
This workshop provides a comprehensive walk-through of the logical and mathematical architecture underpinning safety and sustainability integration within the SUNRISE e-infrastructure, incorporating the updated JRC SSbD framework. A key focus is the systematic mapping and navigation of inherent trade-offs, balancing human safety, environmental impact and technical performance to avoid shifting burdens across the product lifecycle.
Participant input is central to the session: attendees will review the proposed approaches and provide constructive feedback to refine the procedure.
Workshop facilitators: Arianna Livieri, Fabio Rosada, Chara Agaoglou

ProScale Suite Training @ SSbD26: From Concepts to Hands-On Webtool Testing
ProScale equips Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) practitioners with a way to integrate hazard and exposure data into environmental assessments. It draws on regulatory data to highlight chemical impact potentials across every stage of a product’s life cycle. Whether you are already using ProScale or discovering it for the first time at this SSbD26 side event, you will gain actionable insights and practical tools for incorporating these updates into your LCA, chemical footprint and SSbD practice.
This ProScale training session will give participants both a clear conceptual overview and hands-on experience with the ProScale Suite. The session will focus on two key elements:
- Understanding the core concepts behind the ProScale Suite modules,
- Exploring the ProScale web tool through interactive testing, including impact potential indicators for direct and indirect human health as well as ecotoxicity.
Join us for a chance to get familiar with ProScale’s key features, test them in practice, and provide valuable input for future webtool updates.
Seminar speakers: Tomas Rydberg & Pernilla Magnevill (IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute).
Date: 9 November 2026
Time: 9:00 – 12:00 (CET)
Place: Valhallavägen 81, Stockholm, Sweden.

Early Career Researcher Lunch
Are you an early career researcher (ECR)? Join us for an ECR networking lunch on 10 November during the SSbD26 lunch break. Meet fellow ECRs, expand your network, and introduce yourself through a short elevator pitch!
The idea is to share a 2–3 minutes presentation about yourself, your skills and research, and the topics you are interested in. Practising this kind of short introduction can be a valuable tool for networking in both academic and industrial settings.
As the lunch break is unfortunately too short to prepare the pitches on the spot, the organiser will send preparatory questions in advance to help you get ready.
You are welcome to join even if you do not wish to give a pitch, to meet and connect with other ECRs.
Date: 10 November, 2026
Time: 12:30-13:30 (CET)
Place: Kajen. Nacka Strand, Stockholm. Same venue as SSbD26.
